Background

Every year, Resolve convenes and provides support to 20 extraordinary and diverse individuals from the community as part of our social justice fellowship program. They have strong interest and potential for social justice leadership and are committed to the theme of the year. This year, our fellowship is on the theme Closing the Learning Gap: (E)quality Education for all. Each year, the fellowship explores a different theme, but the model stays the same: a program that combines human rights education, campaigning skills and leadership development. It is a community for mutual support and learning and we offer 8 group workshops and mentoring to help the fellows build their capacity and leadership for social justice.

What we have

We have the tools, venue and experience designing and facilitating interactive events that build an intimate and supportive community for developing leadership. During our Fellowship Workshops, we run an in-depth afternoon session that focuses on building the leadership capacity of young aspiring community leaders in the city. The Event Assistant Volunteer can learn and experience how to run an interactive in-person event and engage people from diverse backgrounds.

Why this is important

Education transforms lives. Access to quality education has the potential to be a great equalizer, providing a pathway to a better quality of life through increased job opportunities, improved socioeconomic status, and providing dignity, empowerment, and personal development. In Hong Kong, the inequitable distribution of educational resources and accessibility of opportunities is undermining the role education can play in supporting underprivileged students to achieve upward social mobility. This is an event to support the capacity-building of our 2023 Fellowship cohort. Resolve has run its Fellowship program since 2018, with the objective of equipping aspiring community leaders with the skills and knowledge to actualise their goals. By helping to create change at the grassroots, we strive to help marginalized communities and enable them to create positive social impact in our city. Thus, this event allows us to empower dedicated advocates and generate sustainable social change across Hong Kong. Participants will meet the Resolve team, current Fellows, and other changemakers that operate in the city, who will share with you the details of the program and their experiences. This volunteer role is essential to the facilitation of interactive activities during the workshops. You will help create a warm and welcoming environment.

What we do

Our Mission: We exist to inspire, empower and connect emerging leaders to bring about inclusive social change. Our Vision: We believe in a Hong Kong where everyone is heard and can take everyday action for their community. Our Values: Rights, Equality, Solidarity, Organization, Leadership, Voice and Empowerment. Our Community: Our people and partners come from diverse sectors and backgrounds. We are stronger together. Our Organization: In May 2017, Resolve was founded with one question in mind: in an age of increasing polarization and intolerance, how can we build more inclusive and accepting societies? We believe the answer rests with communities themselves, harnessing their own power to bring about positive social change.
