Curious about what volunteerism and Time Auction events are all about? Meet our community who has shared their memorable experiences in their volunteering journey and meetings with our featured guests!
“Empathy is important.”
Children are the future of our society and Caroline is dedicated to helping them to find their personal goals and passion. Let’s hear her story!
Meet Caroline Leung!
Caroline is a Senior Vice President of Global Liquidity & Cash Management at HSBC, who is responsible for product development and designing e-banking systems for corporations. She went to England for high school and studied at the University of Hong Kong. Since when she was little, her study environment has encouraged her to join volunteering activities in and out of school. And now, working for HSBC provides opportunities and incentives for employees to volunteer, which leads to a larger exposure to different scales of volunteer work, from fundraising to helping start-up NGOs.
Caroline’s most memorable Time Auction event?
She talked about one of the memorable Time Auction events is the dinner with Cecilia Ho, President of Lee Hysan Foundation. Her philosophy of focusing on children's education and development has deeply touched Caroline’s heart.
“The secret of happiness is human connection.”
Caroline has some memorable experiences throughout her volunteer journey. One of them is that she witnesses the growth of the children that she has been mentoring for 5 years.
“From strangers to intimate friends, it is fulfilling to see them grow up and become a better person due to your influence.”
Billy, one of the children that Caroline mentors, loves football a lot and she decided to help arranged him with an opportunity to meet his role models from Manchester City practices up close. His pure and innocent smile has melted Caroline’s heart.
“The secret of happiness is human connection.”
Seeing how children can be satisfied easily, Caroline reflects that adults tend to be more materialistic. It reminds her that happiness can come from simple things in our daily life.
Many people in Hong Kong help charities by donating money, but not many of them get personally involved. Caroline wants more people to engage in volunteering activities and put themselves to others’ shoes. Listening and respecting different voices in our diverse society is how we connect and understand the needs of the people. It may take some time to change people’s mindset, but little steps are steps towards a brighter future.
Thanks Caroline for volunteering 25 hours to charities and joining 2 Time Auction experiences!
