Project Details

What we need
  • Prepare and sell drinks by following prescribed recipes
  • Help preparing and cleaning the café before and after the opening hour.
  • Act as a cashier (collect payments from customers)
  • Hours of volunteering are 09:30 – 17:30; required for either Wednesday or Saturday or both days.
Background

Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong based, non-profit organisation serving global need. We believe that, in a broken world that sees too much suffering, we should do all we can to link those who are in need with those who can provide help. So we provide an intersection, literally a crossroads, to bring both together, through 4 'global services' (https://www.crossroads.org.hk/home/our-work/). Our 90-acre commercial site is nestled between Tai Lam Country Park and the Gold Coast. The beautiful natural environment and our Global Handicrafts Fair Trade Shop and Café attract a number of visitors as well as those joining our volunteer and simulation programmes.

What we have

Prescribed recipes will be provided, and further training will be provided to the volunteer to ensure they can handle the daily duties. The recruitment for the role of barista is ongoing, volunteers are welcome to extend their volunteering beyond three months.

Why this is important

The Silk Road Café sells fair trade teas and coffees from around the world. It also serves snacks from local Hong Kong social enterprises. All sales help provide income for people in need and achieve Crossroads' goal: to link those who are in need with those who can provide help.

What we do

Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong based, non-profit organisation serving global need. We believe that, in a broken world that sees too much suffering, we should do all we can to link those who are in need with those who can provide help. So we provide an intersection, literally a crossroads, to bring both together. • Global Distribution: This distributes Hong Kong's quality excess goods as needed, internationally and locally. It provides a crossroads between need and supply. • Global X-perience: This offers simulated x-periences of global need. It provides a crossroads between the lifestyles of the rich and poor. • Global Handicrafts: This sells fair trade goods from people in poverty. It is a crossroads between those needing a fair income and those with buying power. • Global Hand: This provides a 'matching' website for public- private partnerships. It is a crossroads between for-profit and non-profit organizations who wish to address global need.
