Background

In the year 2022, The Zubin Foundation conducted Home Visits for 300+ Ethnic Minority families in Hong Kong where we learnt manyof grassroots housewives wanting to do something in order to earn some extra money for themselves and support the family as well. Last year, The Zubin Foundation launched the Ethnic Minority Women's Empowerment Project. We bought a few sewing machines in our office and taught the grassroots women how to sew bags. We then had the ladies come in twice a week and sewed bags, and some talented ladies did some hand-painted coasters which. The products they made were later sold in different markets, and they earned some pocket money in the process. Now, in 2023, we are making some placemats with recycled newspapers. To do this, we have to 1) roll the newspapers, 2) dye the rolls and 3) make it in a round shape as a placemat. We are now looking for volunteers who can prepare Step 1) making the paper rolls! Please join us and work with the grassroots ladies together!

What we have

1) We will give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the paper rolls. Trust us - it's simple! https://youtu.be/xyXhan7wADs 2) We also will give you a brief introduction to Hong Kong's grassroots ethnic minority community so you can get to know how they live and survive in this city.

Why this is important

The Ethnic Minority Grassroots Women's Empowerment project helps enhance social inclusion by raising awareness of the racial inclusion and poverty issue, and supporting local businesses. More importantly, it empowers the grassroots women from the ethnic minority community which is leading in uplifting their skills, confidence and life.
