What we need
  • Provide Ethnic Minority Homemarks with 60-min basic Cantonese Conversation Training on a 1:1 / 1:2 Basis
  • Attend a 30-min ZOOM briefing before the training
  • The sessions will be on every Friday mornings in June, you are encouraged to join 1 or more sessions!
  • Volunteers has to speak fluent Cantonese and English
Background

Every Friday morning, Zubin's Family Centre in Austin hosts a Chai Gathering for Ethnic Minority homemakers, which serves as a safe and welcoming platform for them to socialize and acquire valuable life skills. Our direct engagement with the community has revealed that Cantonese proficiency is a crucial skillset for their survival in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, existing training programs in the market are not tailored to their specific needs and proficiency level. To address this issue, we plan to offer 60-min Conversational Cantonese training sessions in June. The programme will include 1:1 or 1:2 personalised training sessions to ensure that participants receive the most effective and relevant instruction possible. Our goal is to equip these homemakers with the Cantonese language skills they need to thrive in Hong Kong, and ultimately, to empower them to achieve greater success and independence.

What we have

The Zubin Foundation will provide: a briefing session on the logistics of the project, a one-pager providing guided questions on how to deliver the session, a training timetable that volunteer trainer to select training session(s) you want to deliver

Why this is important

Every Friday morning, Zubin's Family Centre in Austin hosts a Chai Gathering for Ethnic Minority homemakers, which serves as a safe and welcoming platform for them to socialize and acquire valuable life skills. Our goal is to equip these homemakers with different life skills (including Cantonese language skills) they need to thrive in Hong Kong, and ultimately, to empower them to achieve greater success and independence.
