Venue: Hall 3F, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Titled “Forging a sustainable future through a cultural lens”, the Talk will examine the relationship between art and sustainability. Global citizenry has come to the realisation that great changes are required to leave a liveable world for future generations, and increasingly, artists, designers, curators and creatives are joining and leading the conversations surrounding sustainability. Some at the forefront of cultural production embrace this topic as a means of understanding their impact on the environment; whilst some leverage their works to send powerful messages. We have invited four respected speakers from across the creative industries to discuss and debate how “sustainability” has taken on new definitions. Speakers include Ms Kay Chan (Product designer); Mr Chris Cheung (h0mh1m) (New media artist and a winner of the 2019 UOB Art in Ink Awards), Mr Eric Ho (He Jilan) (Contemporary Chinese Ink artist) and Ms Penelope Luk (Creative Director of Crafts on Peel). The talk will be moderated by Ms Stephanie Poon and will be conducted in Cantonese.
Presented in partnership with UOB, Art Central will take place on 20-23 May 2021 (VIP Preview on 19 May) at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Fair showcases the next generation of talent from Asia’s most innovative galleries alongside distinguished artists from around the world. Art Central 2021 brings new initiatives that reflect the unique position of Hong Kong within a global marketplace, and a new age of commercial and artistic engagement—one which addresses the fundamental role of the Fair in a transitioning environment, with an eye towards technology and sustainability. As a long-term supporter of art in Asia, UOB will present Ink Reveries, a site-specific interactive and immersive installation by Hong Kong new media artist and winner of the 2019 UOB Art in Ink Awards, Mr Chris Cheung (h0nh1m), and the 2019 and 2020 UOB Art in Ink Awards winner showcase exhibition at the UOB Art Space within the Fair. We are looking forward to welcoming you at Art Central!
