What we need

• To design lesson plans and prepare teaching materials for pre-school children aged 3-6 years old (some teaching materials are readily available for use)
• Provide English tutoring; Teacher to student ratio will be 1:6
• Teach for 1 hour per week on every Saturday morning (any 1 hour between 09:00am-13:00nn), starting 8 Oct (can start at a later date), for consecutive 12 weeks (minimum attendance 80%)
• Story-telling, games, songs and art activities should be integrated into the lessons
• Program purpose is to intrigue children's interest in learning English through exposure and games

Background

The SoCO English tutoring programme aims to facilitate preschool children's language acquisition and develop their interests in learning English. Through story-telling and interactive games, the course builds up children's foundational knowledge like alphabetical understanding, letter-sound recognition and vocabulary acquisition. The course will be held on every Saturday Morning with 12 lessons in total. There are 3 classes of 3 different levels (K1-K3). Volunteers are expected to teach the classes once a week. The classes will be held between October 2022 to January 2023.

What we have

Volunteers are required to design their own teaching plans and SoCO is able to provide teaching materials for the lessons. If volunteers have encounter any difficulties in teaching the lessons, they can seek advice from our staff as well.

Why this is important

With the aim of reaching out to underprivileged children and families, this projects enables children to learn English in an interesting way and develop their early literacy skills during the early childhood period
