Project Details

What we need
  • Attend a 1 hour online briefing prior the event (date & time will be confirmed after volunteer signed up)
  • Volunteers will need to do approximately 1-2 hours of background reading at your their own time and pace
  • Volunteers will need to do a 2 hours practice session with other volunteers before the actual session
  • Commit to 1.5 hours on a Sunday to conduct at least one Know Your Rights face to face session. We highly encourage volunteers to do more sessions, but it is not mandatory.
  • Volunteer's minimum age requirement is 21
Background

Know Your Rights is one of the basic training HELP provides for free for migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. This training equips migrant domestic workers with a better understanding about their rights and responsibilities in Hong Kong. HELP is looking for volunteers to conduct and present the first module of their Know Your Rights training.

Why this is important

Migrant Domestic Workers who know their rights are less likely to face legal challenges in the future, less likely to be trapped in loan debts, and more likely to spread the knowledge to their peers.

HELP for Domestic Workers is an NGO working on the frontlines to support migrant domestic workers to gain access to justice and fair and equal treatment in Hong Kong. Since 1989, we have supported migrant domestic workers through advice, assistance, education and empowerment. We equip the employers of domestic workers with knowledge and awareness so that they can build a mutually beneficial relationship with their domestic workers.
