Project Details

What we need
  • Attend a 1 hour online briefing prior to the event (date & time will be confirmed after sign-ups)
  • Volunteers will need to do approximately 2-3 hours of background reading at their own time and pace
  • Volunteers will need to do a 2 hours practice session with other volunteers before the actual session
  • Commit to 1.5 to 2 hours on a Sunday to conduct at least 1 session. We highly encourage volunteers to do more sessions, but it is not mandatory
  • We are looking for English-speaking volunteers aged 21 and above

As our volunteer presenter, you will conduct and present training workshops on "Sickness and Allowances." "Sickness and Allowances" is the second module of the HELPing Hands programme, a series of training classes HELP provides for free for migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. This training equips migrant domestic workers with a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities with respect to sickness allowances, how to exercise their rights, and available support services and resources.

What we have

We will provide (1) Briefing pre-event (2) Training Materials (3) Paid zoom account to use for online training (4) Venue for offline training

Why this is important

Through this project, we will engage migrant domestic workers to equip them with the necessary knowledge concerning their rights and responsibilities. Through providing information and training on the basic rights of domestic workers, it is hoped that they will be able to make informed decisions. This is part of HELP’s effort to ensure that migrant workers are empowered to access justice and fair and equal treatment.

What we do

HELP for Domestic Workers is an NGO working on the frontlines to support migrant domestic workers to gain access to justice and fair and equal treatment in Hong Kong. Since 1989, we have supported migrant domestic workers through advice, assistance, education and empowerment. We equip the employers of domestic workers with knowledge and awareness so that they can build a mutually beneficial relationship with their domestic workers.
