Background

Grassroots Future is a registered charity looking at empowering grassroots movements and building capacity in the refugee and asylum seeker community. We are looking for volunteers to help with the production of a short film (approx 40 min), written by a member of the community in Hong Kong. The film project covers many social issues related to race, judgments based on nationality, stereotypes based on appearance, conflict, humanity, the influence of the media in shaping ignorance towards others. The film will feature talents from all corners of Hong Kong society through acting, music, art and more.

What we have

(1) Briefing call with the Screenwriter/Director and Grassroots Future representative (2) Briefing / pitch deck with an overview of the film project

Why this is important

Our organization would like to help creative people in the refugee community share their stories and creativity with a wider audience, through different media. This is a really special opportunity to help the production of a film which will spotlight social issues and the project will be the first time a film has been written by the community.

What we do

Grassroots Future looks at empowering grassroots movements and building capacity in the refugee and asylum seeker community. We achieve this through the following model: Education: Supporting the needs of young people and adults through training, mentorship, workshops and general skills training to improve capacity and self sufficiency. Community outreach: Community outreach and cultural events, which are curated by the refugee community, to engage different groups within society. Well-being: Provide safe spaces for healing and mental well-being through the arts and recreational activities. Investing in the future: Supporting the educational expenses of children through our event programming.
