Project Details

What we need
  • Overhaul and repair used bicycles
  • Conduct safety and quality tests
  • Salvage parts from irreparable bicycles
  • Mechanical proficiency of tools required, but training will be offered!
  • Our full time staff are all volunteers, so your contribution will be highly appreciated and crucially required. A minimum attendance of 1 day per week for 3 months is required (Days negotiable!)
Background

Around 95% of the overhauled bicycles will be allocated internationally, where it will be distributed to those who rely on bicycle as their main mode of transport, while the rest will go to those who are in need locally.

What we have

Further training will be provided to ensure the volunteer is able to handle the daily duties. Tools and materials needed for overhauling are also provided. Full-day volunteers are also more than welcome to stay for lunch!

Why this is important

For many rural people in poverty, a bicycle completely transforms their life, as they can travel to work or take their goods to a more profitable market. Our bicycle department is in charge of overhauling bicycles so that they are ready to be allocated to those who are in need.

What we do

Crossroads Foundation is a Hong Kong based, non-profit organisation serving global need. We believe that, in a broken world that sees too much suffering, we should do all we can to link those who are in need with those who can provide help. So we provide an intersection, literally a crossroads, to bring both together. • Global Distribution: This distributes Hong Kong's quality excess goods as needed, internationally and locally. It provides a crossroads between need and supply. • Global X-perience: This offers simulated x-periences of global need. It provides a crossroads between the lifestyles of the rich and poor. • Global Handicrafts: This sells fair trade goods from people in poverty. It is a crossroads between those needing a fair income and those with buying power. • Global Hand: This provides a 'matching' website for public- private partnerships. It is a crossroads between for-profit and non-profit organizations who wish to address global need.
