Background

To make these videos accessible to a wider audience, including hearing individuals who prefer reading subtitles and those learning Chinese. Enhance the understanding and engagement of our videos, fostering greater inclusivity and support for the deaf community.

What we have

Guidance on YouTube subtitle formats (.srt and .sbv) and provide examples if needed. If the volunteer is unfamiliar with subtitling software, we can recommend free and user-friendly options. Our staff will be available to answer any questions the volunteer may have regarding the video content or the subtitling process.

Why this is important

Improving accessibility, ensuring clear and effective communication of our messages, promoting better understanding of deaf-related issues and increasing awareness of our services and the needs of deaf individuals and their families.

What we do

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
