What we need

• Join us at Cheung Chau for the beach clean up on the day (tentatively 10am - 2pm)
• Encourage conversations and speak with students in English, discussing about environmental and sustainability topics (e.g. single use plastics)
• Assist students in cleaning the beach, while facilitating friendly and relaxed conversations
• Please bring your own lunch and snacks for the day

Background

Beach clean-ups provide students the opportunity to help preserve Hong Kong's beautiful beaches and protect our environment from the harmful impacts of single-use plastics. As well as this, the beach cleans allow students to discuss with their peers and our team of English speaking tutors and volunteers about how their actions have a direct influence on the physical environment, supporting the Chatteris mission of empowering young people, through education, to take meaningful action to protect and sustain the environment into the future.

What we have

All cleaning materials are provided. A briefing is given before the activity.

Why this is important

Our activities are attended by students from Chatteris partner schools, which have a significant number of disadvantaged students. These activities provide students with a non-formal environment that allows them to communicate in English genuinely and without any stress.By recruiting volunteers from outside our own organisation, we are enhancing students' exposure to the English speaking environment and providing them with a larger variety of experiences and opportunities.
