What we do

Launched in mid-2020, Equal Justice 平義社 is an award-winning, community-impact charity that provides free legal education, information and support to people who are disadvantaged or excluded and who cannot afford, or otherwise access, the law and lawyers. We run a free community legal centre in Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon. We think we may be the only such centre in Hong Kong. The others, housed in District Offices historically, are on hold as far as we can tell. Equal Justice was founded in response to the community legal access gaps the team sees first-hand. We are here to bridge Hong Kong’s legal access poverty gaps. People can experience access to justice barriers due to: legal capability, literacy and network, financial limitations, language difficulties, health challenges, including stress. So far, we have helped over 1,500 people to anticipate, prevent and solve their legal problems. We partner with our network of over 30 NGOs and 120+ lawyers at 50+ law firms and barristers’ chambers.
