About Eric

Eric Lau is currently Head of Product at Woven Planet Holdings, a subsidery of Toyota that develops and maintains automotive software products and technologies in Japan.

Eric is also a founding member for Mox Bank, a Hong Kong-based virtual bank launched in 2020 and backed by Standard Chartered, PCCW, HKT, and Trip.com. He had held different leadership roles at the bank as a product and data thought leader. Prior to joining Woven Planet Holdings, Eric led the Growth and Design function of Mox bank as their Head of Growth and Service Design under the Customer Tribe, building out the bank's Growth initiatives by combining data science, UX/UI, service design, and research disciplines under one roof. He is a passionate advocate of using analytics to inform Product, Engineering, and Design to create exceptional customer experiences (CX) and scale.

Eric had been a Director of Product for Standard Chartered's Digital Wealth Group in Singapore, overseeing CX, research, and digital channels across all of its global Private Banking offices. This had led to many successful Standard Chartered's research-led client and relationship managers' digital channel transformations in 2018 for their international Private Banking clients. He was also instrumental in facilitating product discovery for their regional general insurance units, some of which have already appeared within Standard Chartered's own digital channels and ecosystem today.

Eric also had experience leading the innovation unit as a venture-building leader for the Westpac Group back in Australia. His focus was on leading technical innovation, CX, and ventures for various initiatives within the entire Group. His crucial achievement was a successful internal rapid prototyping, stealth incubation, and market launch of Westpac's first-ever insurtech venture from its own intrapreneur. He was also involved in supporting the launch of Westpac's inaugural data program with Stone & Chalk and Data Republic and helping Westpac develop its ecosystem strategy for the Board within the Innovation and M&A units.

Prior to Westpac Innovation, Eric had held technical leadership roles at Westpac's Institutional Banking Services unit. As a trained software engineer passionate about data, he has built and developed multiple data science platforms as an analytics lead for IMC Financial markets at their APAC office, King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney, and the public sector in NSW Australia. He is passionate about education and financial empowerment. Eric is currently based in Tokyo.

✨Reviews

"The mentors that Time Auction invite are very seasoned in their career and life and more importantly, they have the heart to listen and share their personal experiences. The opportunity to engage in quality chats with someone outside of your normal circle is very precious." — Pearl Ho, Mar 2022

"I couldn’t have asked for a more fruitful hour than this spent with Eric during our longest lockdown yet in Hong Kong. Eric is a very experienced product leader at Mox and I really appreciate him for empowering me with tools to build a high-impact team, scale product success, and just as importantly, sharing his take on navigating my early career in tech as someone who’s been in my shoes." — Ivy Fung, Apr 2022
