Meet Wai Sze, Taurus
Few people choose to volunteer in the same field they work for their full time job, but Taurus is one of them. Prior to joining Time Auction, Taurus participated in the 30-Hour Famine and Used Book Recycling Campaign organized by World Vision Hong Kong. As a marketing professional, Taurus cleverly leverages her digital marketing skills to serve others by managing their social media platforms, transforming her expertise into a tool for societal impact. Her story is a testament to the profound impact of volunteering, not only on the community but also on personal growth and fulfilment!
Making Good Use of Time to Volunteer
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when social and physical activities were limited, Taurus decided to use her time to contribute to society. She found Time Auction through an Instagram advertisement and discovered the perfect opportunity with HK 5 Sense Theatre as a Social Media Content Creator.
HK 5 Sense Theatre, a non-profit organization backed by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), is committed to developing infant theatre. The organization’s work is unique, blending sensory stimulation, non-verbal communication, music, multimedia, and participatory theatre to create globally accessible and popular art. Their mission also promotes a culture of "multi-sensory interaction" in parent-child activities.
Writing Social Media Feed
As HK 5 Sense Theatre’s social media content creator, Taurus had the opportunity to channel her creativity and skills into a noble cause. Her role involves creating and adapting content for different platforms, as well as conducting research. During the process, Taurus delved deep into HK 5 Sense Theatre’s unique approach to stimulate children's senses and imagination from an early age, thereby enhancing children’s sensory abilities and building a dynamic relationship between children and performers. This understandng allowed her to align her content with the NGO’s vision, which is to create globally accessible, popular art through sensory activities.
Creating Longlasting Happiness
Volunteering opened up a new world for Taurus. It offered her a closer look at the community and the principles behind performing arts education. She gained a perspective she won’t typically get as an audience member. More than just a contribution, volunteering turned into a source of sustained happiness and enjoyment for Taurus.
Balancing Flexibile Volunteer Schedule
While this is a volunteer opportunity wonderfully combines Taurus’s interest and profession, the journey was not without challenges. Balancing her full-time job with her volunteer work became particularly demanding as Hong Kong steadily returns to normal after the pandemic. However, Taurus found a silver lining in the flexibility offered by Time Auction’s virtual volunteering concept. It allowed her to volunteer remotely, finding it easier to fit into her schedule and making her volunteering commitment more manageable.
Taurus’s dedication and hard work were recognised when she received the Swire Trust Go-Givers of the Year award - it came as a pleasant surprise. The awared served as a reminder of the impact she was making through her volunteer work at HK 5 Sense Theatre and reinforced her belief in the value of volunteering.
Thank you so much to Taurus for contributing 64 volunteer hours & beyond at HK 5 Sense Theatre Senses PlayLab!
