Mr. Chan Hung, commonly known as Principal Chan, was the founding principal of a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) secondary school, the Secretary of the Hong Kong DSS Secondary Schools Association and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Private Schools Association. In order to provide equal and comprehensive learning support for the underprivileged and abandoned students, Principal Chan decided to step down and established the ‘Principal Chan Free Tutorial World’ in 2011, providing free tutorial services and to the under-privileged children. He also started offering free pre-school playgroup courses and different kinds of free talent classes. Currently, there are more than 14,000 under-privileged children receiving free one-to-one tutorial services and nearly 4,000 students from the pre-school playgroup courses and talent classes. In recent years, Principal Chan has become even more active in prompting innovative education. He founded the ‘Jockey Club Neo Education Lab’ and ‘Hopeland School’. He has also held educational camps, visited different districts to demonstrate innovative lessons to parents, published parental educational magazines and tried diligently to change the exam-oriented educational phenomena.
Principal Chan is also a writer who writes for teens. He has more than ten published books including “Youth is found in basketballs” which obtained championship in the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature (both adolescent and children literature and the youth educational series “Principal Chan and You”: “Principal Chan takes you to meet famous basketball players”, “Principal Chan helps you find good books”, “Principal Chan invite you for a day out” and “Principal Chan teaches you how to choose idols”…etc.).
