Meet Teresa, the first Chinese and female equity partner at Freshfields. Described as an ‘icon of the legal industry’, she's now the firm's China chairman and specialises in securities and M&A.

About

Described as an ‘icon of the legal industry’, Teresa is Freshfields’ China chairman and a founding partner of Freshfields’ renowned Asia equity capital markets practice. Teresa has helped numerous Chinese state-owned, privately-owned and international companies with their high-profile or ‘first of a kind’ securities transactions, including IPOs for the 'big four' banks. She has listed seven out of ten of the largest IPOs in Hong Kong, including China Tower’s recent listing – the world’s largest IPO of 2018. Among her many leading roles in both the public sector and the legal profession, Teresa was the first woman to head The Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Listing Committee and initiated the disclosure of board diversity policy by listed companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Teresa served as a non-executive director of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2018 and continues to be a Deputy Chair of the Takeovers Panel in Hong Kong and a member of the Takeovers Appeal Committee.

Teresa has also sat on the China Securities Regulatory Commission's Expert Advisory Committee for Mergers and Acquisitions, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform. Last year, she was appointed as a trustee of the IFRS Foundation which sets the International Financial Reporting Standards. Teresa earned a first class Master’s degree in law from Jesus College, Cambridge University, England. She has two children who are now young adults. Her interests are fashion, health and wellbeing, governance and world affairs - and trying to make a difference each day as it comes.

Requirements

All volunteer hours must be completed during 1 November 2018 to 15 May 2019.

Cost per person is HK$100 (Full-time students aged 25 or below)/ HK$200 (General Participants) to support the running costs of our charity and our mission to make volunteerism mainstream.

Lunch will be held at WeWork Tower 535 at 12:15-2:30pm on 25 May 2019.
