Douglas co-founded Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) 住好啲, an iconic Hong Kong lifestyle store and a multifaceted cultural trendsetter
About
Born in Hong Kong in 1965, Douglas Young trained as an Architect in the United Kingdom. In 1991, he returned to his home and began to transform many of Hong Kong’s residential and retail interiors into creative and stylish spaces with Young Associates.
On many of Douglas’ projects, he became increasingly frustrated by the lack of well-designed and well-priced furniture and homewares available in Hong Kong. And so in 1996, Douglas co-founded Goods of Desire with Benjamin Lau, a fellow architect and home design aficionado. Starting with a
small shop in Ap Lei Chau, G.O.D. has grown into an established, multi-faceted lifestyle brand selling home furnishings, fashion and premium gifts with a distinct Hong Kong flair.
All G.O.D. products are designed in-house by a multi-disciplinary design team led by Douglas and are inspired by the vibrant culture of Hong Kong where east meets west, and age-old traditions meet cutting-edge technology. Using humour and creativity, they turn everyday subjects into truly
extraordinary objects.
Through his work, Douglas would like to inspire future generations of designers to seek inspiration from Hong Kong and foster pride in our community.
Douglas and G.O.D. have both won numerous awards including “MustGo Hong Kong Local Brand” by NEXT Brand Awards 2014, “Gold Award” & “HK Best Award” by Hong Kong Design Association Global Design Award in 2011, "Man of the Year" by Hong Kong Business Magazine in 2009, "Ten Outstanding Designers Award" by the Hong Kong Communication Art Centre in 2006, "Outstanding Greater China Design Award" by The Hong Kong Communication Art Centre in 2008, "Design of the Year – Bedding" Elle Decoration Magazine International Design Award, "Innovation and Creativity Award" by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in 2005, and "Design for Asia Award" by the Hong Kong Design Centre in 2004, amongst others.
To date, there are 6 store locations in Hong Kong. G.O.D. also sells products wholesale or brand-license to boutiques or department stores in cities such as London, Amsterdam, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Singapore. The company has collaborated with international companies as Starbucks, Coca Cola, Microsoft, Swarovski, Canon, Greenpeace, and NGO SPCA (Hong Kong).
