About
David Lee was born in Hong Kong, educated in the USA, and is married with two sons. After he graduated from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business in 1982 with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing, Mr Lee joined Lee Kum Kee Company Limited to develop the family business.
Mr. David Lee is the fourth generation of Lee Kum Sheung, founder of the Lee Kum Kee sauce business which was established in 1888 in Guangdong Province and has been continuously owned and operated by multiple generations of the Lee family. Lee Kum Kee markets more than 200 types of sauces and condiments and is considered a household name throughout Asia.
Mr. Lee started up the USA operation of Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group in 1982 when he first joined the family business after graduation. He served in various senior management positions of the Sauce Group over the past 30 years, including as Managing Director overseeing the Worldwide Food Division, Executive Director overseeing the Group Human Resources, Group Finance, Group Corporate Affairs and Group Business Development, Chairman and CEO of Lee Kum Kee (USA) Inc., Lee Kum Kee (Europe), and he took up the chairmanship of the Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group between 2009 and 2011. Mr. Lee was awarded Chapter Honoree, Hong Kong Baptist University Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma for his outstanding business and managerial leadership in 2014.
Mr. Lee also has extensive experience in building the family governance system for the Lee Kum Kee family. He has been the Family Council members since 2002, and used to take on chairmanship in Family Office from 2012 to 2014 and Family Learning and Development Centre from 2006 to 2008 and was reappointed to the position in 2017.
Mr Lee served as a member of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Committee from 2003 to 2012, and he also served as a member in the School of Business Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist University from 2010 to 2016.
Mr. Lee has served as Chairman of the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation since January 2013. The Family Foundation’s current mission is to promote happy family relationship, and to advocate the concept of “Prevention before Sickness”. He trusts awareness building and preventive actions before family sickness will help create a caring and harmonious community in which healthy families can exploit their potentials and give back to the community. As a Foundation Chair, family healthiness and happy multi-generational family relationship are other health areas that Mr. Lee is interested to explore further.
At present, Mr Lee serves as a member of Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Committee, a member of Board of Dean’s Advisor of Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, a member of Business School Advisory Council and a member of Court of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also an Advisory Board Member of Legacy Academy, an Advisory Committee Member of the Institute of Active Ageing of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an Advisor of Hong Kong Baptist University Young Entrepreneur’s Club, and an Executive Committee Member of the University of Southern California Alumni Association (HK) Limited.
