Girish Jhunjhnuwala was born and raised Hong Kong. Upon completing secondary school in the SAR, he went on to graduate from the University of Southern California in 1984, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 1984, he began his professional career at his family’s successful OEM watchmaking business, right at the peak of China’s production prowess. But after a few years, as the new millennium was soon approaching, Girish noticed the changing times, and decided to follow one of his own lifelong dreams by moving into the hospitality business. The Ovolo brand officially launched in 2002, designed to bring a new, refreshed outlook on the definition of modern hospitality. The brand’s flagship property became a serviced apartment located in Hong Kong’s Central district. Since then, Ovolo has ridden the wave of changing demands in hospitality by transitioning into a boutique hotel brand. The company currently operates ten properties, including four hotels in Hong Kong and six hotels in Australia.
In December 2017, Girish launched Mojo Nomad, a co-living brand in Aberdeen Harbor, Hong Kong. Mojo Nomad combines travelling, living and working with community in a city growing in digital nomads who often move jobs and residences over a period of years. The property offers a mix of shared rooms and private rooms for those seeking privacy. Plans to expand the brand are scheduled in the upcoming months. Outside of managing his successful business, Girish counts his family as one of his greatest achievements. With wife Sarika Jhunjhnuwala (married 32 years), he has three children, daughters Avni & Avisha as well as son Shivang. When not juggling the pressures of business and family, you’re bound to find Girish enjoying a session of yoga, a hike on Hong Kong’s mountains or exquisite bottle of wine. - 2016 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year China Country Winner - 2014 Brand Excellence Award – DHL/SCMP Enterprising Hong Kong Awards - 2012 Owner – Operator of the Year – DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards
