About

Alvin Yeung graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Alvin then attended Peking University, China, and University of Bristol, United Kingdom, and obtained a Master of Laws (Constitutional and Administrative Law) and Master of Arts (Legal Studies) respectively. He obtained his PCLL from the University of Hong Kong and was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2009. In February 2016, Yeung won the by-election of the LegCo (New Territories East) with 160,880 votes. He was elected again as a member of the LegCo (New Territories East) in September 2016. He was subsequently elected as party leader in November. Yeung sees being a lawmaker as a commitment to the Hong Kong people and a devotion to the city. He is in support of human rights, and everyone in the society deserves to be treated equally. He believes one should hunger and thirst for righteousness; and with a fearless heart, one does not retreat. As a young political leader and barrister-in-law, Yeung holds on to his belief - “do what is right not what is easy.” He looks up to Winston Churchill who is famous for his wisdom, witty sense of humour and polymathy. Yeung also particularly admires Pierre Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada, who played a leading role in the decriminalization of 'homosexual acts' performed in private. He famously commented "there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation." Trudeau is considered as a pioneer of LGBT rights.

Yeung has been holding his stance on supporting LGBT rights in Hong Kong. He is also the ambassador of Pride Parade 2016. Yeung is in support of Hong Kong’s bid to host Gay Games 2022 which the result is to be announced in November 2017. He is now joining hands with Time Auction and the Gay Games bidding team to host a lunch themed “Sports and Diversity” on 16 June 2017 at 12:30pm - 2pm. The Gay Games is an international sports and cultural event which is held every four years, like the Olympics. Everyone is welcome to participate regardless of sexual orientation, ability, gender, age or race. The Gay Games aims to promote equality and unity in diversity through sports and a series of cultural events. Want to know more about sports and diversity?
