Mr. Water Cheung spent more than two decades in global investment banking encompassing Trading, Sales and Corporate Finance. He is currently the Senior Principal and Asia-Pacific CEO of StormHarbour Securities, a global merchant bank boutique with 150 professionals globally.
Water joined StormHarbour in February 2010 as the Senior Partner and CEO, Asia Pacific to oversee the firm's business in Asia. Prior to StormHarbour, in 2007 Water was hired to help RBS to build up its emerging market presence in Asia, and later to integrate its market business with that of ABN AMRO. Between April 2004 and May 2007, Water was the Head of Global Financial Markets (GFM) for DBS and managed its investment banking and treasury business in Greater China. Concurrently, Water also ran DBS' Global Debt Capital Markets and successfully expanded DBS' real estate securitization business. Water joined DBS in 2000 as the Head of Regional Derivatives and Credit Products and was instrumental in growing the bank's derivative and bond business into a substantial one. Prior to DBS, Water was a Managing Director in CIBC's Financial Products team in Singapore and Head of Regional Derivatives Trading at Chase Manhattan Bank in Hong Kong. Water started his banking career in Canada working for institutions including The Bank of Montreal and Burns Fry.
Water is a CFA and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA degree from York University in Canada. He is an also regular columnist in the Hong Economic Journal and Ming Pao. He is also a board member and advisor for Social Ventures Hong Kong, a venture philanthropic organization, aiming to provide financial and non-financial support to Social Enterprises in Hong Kong.
