Violet Lim saw a business opportunity in the competitive world where the lives of busy professionals revolve around work and the boardroom. Further observation of her family, friends and colleagues who complained about having little time for love due to their busy schedules convinced Violet even more and led her to set up her own matchmaking company called Lunch Actually in 2004 with her then fiancé, now husband Mr Jamie Lee. She has come a long way since then and her spot-on business acumen has paid off. Today, Lunch Actually is Asia’s biggest premier lunch dating company with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Jakarta and Bangkok with the largest lunch dating membership base. Together with Jamie, Violet also founded esync to fill the gap in the market for trusted online and offline dating service platforms. LunchClick came about a few years later, in the recognition that the market was flooded with dating apps perfect for casual daters and men. Women who were looking for serious relationships, but also wanted the convenience of a mobile app didn’t have a product that catered to their needs. Enter LunchClick, the first female-centric app in Singapore designed to solve the problems that women face whilst using mobile apps, and to give them a better dating experience. Having the principle that finding love is not just about meeting the right one, but also ‘being the right one’ and ‘choosing the right one’, Violet also founded Lunch Actually Academy to help singles achieve happy, long-term relationships through a series of engaging, informative and personalized coaching service with the team of professional date coaches and certified image consultants.
The first Asian to be certified by the Matchmaking Institute in New York City, Violet has gained tremendous insight into the dating and matchmaking industry and is the pioneer in her field. She has appeared in over 3,050 media coverages in top magazines, television and radio, and featured in local and international media such as The Straits Times, ABC News 20|20, CNBC Asia, BBC, Bloomberg and Radio Australia. She was also featured in Singapore’s National Day video in 2005 as one of Singapore’s most aspiring people. Previously a columnist on the relationship Q&A in Cittabella Malaysia, New Man Malaysia and HerWorld.com, she now writes a monthly column for a renowned Hong Kong magazine. On top of her role as CEO and spokesperson of Lunch Actually Group, Violet is serving as a Chapter President of Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Singapore. For her involvement and contributions to the society at large through her profession and community commitments, Violet was the first EO Singapore member to be featured on the cover of Octane, EO’s award-winning magazine. Violet has a Masters degree in Industrial Relations and Personal Management from the London School of Economics, United Kingdom and she read law at the University of Manchester from 1998 – 2001. In 2010, Violet published a bestselling book titled “Lessons from 15,000 First Dates” where she shares dating secrets that she learnt after having witnessed 15,000 first dates arranged by her dating agency at that time for thousands of single men and women, and is currently working on her second book.Today, Lunch Actually Group has arranged more than 100,000 dates across Asia! The blog, known as “Diary of a Modern-Day Matchmaker” has won The Most Insightful Blog at Singapore Blog Awards 2010, which reinforces her as the country’s most beloved dating guru. Violet is happily married to her university sweetheart cum business partner Jamie, and they have two young children, Corum and Cara.
