Sally, Founder of Hong Kong Dog Rescue, is saving lives of dogs and puppies while educating the public about pet adoption

About

Sally Andersen started Hong Kong Dog Rescue in 2003, with a mission to to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome abandoned and unwanted dogs. Around 10,000 dogs and puppies are officially destroyed every year in Hong Kong, with a further unknown number of those having been abandoned dying from disease or starvation. HKDR rescues some of them and housed them at their Tai Po Homing Centre, with small dogs awaiting re-homing at the Centre in Ap Lei Chau. HKDR promotes responsible pet ownership and positive reinforcement, reward-based training for all companion animals. Sally first came to Hong Kong for a visit in 1984 and decided to stay. Since setting up Hong Kong Dog Rescue 12 years ago, the charity has rescued and re-homed around 7000 dogs, as well as educating the public about responsible pet ownership and the benefits of dog adoption. It has also created an engaged community of thousands of volunteers with a number of dedicated and hardcore helpers who come in several times a week to walk and play with the dogs. Prior to moving to Hong Kong 31 years ago Sally lived in London and spent her formative years in Germany. She now lives on Lamma Island with many dogs and puppies, while HKDR has over 600 dogs under their care in total.
