Kylie co-founded PathFinders, an NGO with a mission to ensure every migrant child born in Hong Kong has a fair start in life
Compelled by the lack of support for migrant children born to unsupported mothers in Hong Kong, Kylie co-founded PathFinders in 2007. She then dedicated the next six years to lead its development as Executive Director.
Also driven by a strong interest in HK’s community, she supports Civic Exchange, a Hong Kong-based public policy think tank that influences government policy and public education towards a more liveable and sustainable Hong Kong. She currently serves as their Treasurer and Director.
Kylie’s interest in social issues deepened since living in Hong Kong, a community that she believes is rich, knowledgeable and generous, and yet at the same time provides opportunities to work towards a more equal and just society.
Earlier, Kylie qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in Corporate Advisory Financial Services in Melbourne, Vancouver and Hong Kong. Hong Kong has been home for her and her family since 1999.
Her work has been recognised and she was awarded Master in Charity Award by AMCHAM Women of Influence in 2013, and Women of Hope by The List Magazine in 2014.
ABOUT PathFinders (www.pathfinders.org.hk)
In 2007, Kylie Uebergang and Melissa Mowbray-d'Arbela rescued four babies born to migrant women in Hong Kong and decided to co-found PathFinders.
Realising a gap in Hong Kong society where women and babies go undocumented and unprotected, PathFinders was founded on the belief that no child should be born alone and deprived of medical support, shelter and identity.
Having served more than 3,100 babies, children and women, PathFinders is a respected charity committed to supporting the welfare of children by providing child protection, mothers’ protection, counselling, shelter, food, access to health, access to education, access to legal support and advocacy.
All volunteer hours must be completed during March to June 2014.
