Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ning graduated from BA (Hons) Fashion Design in Degree at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Ning Lau was the Vice President of fashion empire JOYCE (LaneCrawford Joyce Group) between 2007 and 2013. Before she joined the retail industry, she was the founder and publisher of “Store Magazine” distributed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, London and New York. In 2011, Ning published her bilingual book, “My Treasures”, which was sold in Hong Kong, Paris Colette, and Milan 10 Corso Como.
Ning founded the online fashion platform “who ARE invited” (www.whoareinvited.com) in 2013 which revolutionized Hong Kong’s digital media scene. Ning finally dove into the art of handmade dolls in 2015, turning her love for dolls over the years into a part-time passion. Making use of her sewing skills from her fashion design days, she made dolls that are hand-sewn from scratch, giving them quirky and unique characters that reflect the modern life.
Ning has been collaborating with different organization and brands on doll projects : international fashion designer Vika Gazinskaya x Ning Lau doll exhibition with department store TSUM in Russia in Oct 2017, LVMH luxury brand Moynat VIP doll workshop, “Fashionally Collection 2016” project of Hong Kong Fashion Week by Hong Kong Trade and Development Council, Shu Uemura X Kitsune limited cosmetics collection, 2015 Christmas program of JOYCE to handmade fashion dolls to name a few.
Her first doll exhibition was held in Oct 2015, followed by a large-scale doll exhibition in The Peak Galleria shopping mall in Hong Kong. “I love Hong Kong” doll collection series was shown in Design Gallery of HKTDC in Jan 2017.
Her inspiring journey has been featured in local and international publications: WWD, Vogue China, Madame Figaro, L’Officiel, Grazia, Buro 24/7, Vogue Russia, Doll Master, Harper’s Bazaar, Apple Daily, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Numero, Modern Weekly etc.
