Help us to conduct research on crafts artisan and compose a bilingual artisan anthology

What we need

  • Join a 1-hour briefing session
  • Conduct research on crafts artisan
  • Join monthly meeting with our research team members
  • Compose bilingual artisan anthology - Volunteers who only have proficiency in either Written Chinese or English are welcome to apply

Background

Based on crafts artisan interviews and previous research done by Crafts on Peel, in tangent with our research on the production methods of each craft and the artisan’s own history, the anthology highlights the knowledge and philosophy that each artisan embodies. Currently, we have selected 20 artisans to start with, many of them have already collaborated with us. Research writers are expected to conduct research on the respective artisan and write the profile.

What we have

Guidelines to construct the Anthology will be provided. Previous Artisan Anthology can also be provided for reference.

Why this is important

Traditional craftsmanship perpetuation, reinvention, and revival are the three tenets that guide Crafts on Peel. To preserve the knowledge of artisanry, recording and organisation of an archive are of great importance.

Crafts on Peel is a charitable organization to revive, reinterpret and perpetuate traditional craftsmanship by fostering collaborations between traditional craftsmen and contemporary artisans through apprenticeship and the exchange of techniques, with the aim of nurturing the younger generations to incorporate traditional skills into innovative contemporary designs, to breathe new life into traditional crafts so that the values of traditional craftsmanship can be integrated to our times.
