Conduct yoga sessions for deaf mothers
The "Empowered Mothers Yoga Workshop" aims to support and enhance the well-being of deaf mothers through the therapeutic practice of yoga. This project arose from the recognition of the unique challenges faced by mothers in the deaf community, who often experience isolation and may lack access to wellness resources that are inclusive and tailored to their needs.
To help the volunteer yoga instructor get started effectively, we provide a range of resources and support tailored to ensure both their success and the success of the "Empowered Mothers Yoga Workshop." Here are the key resources available:Sign Language Resources: Access to video tutorials or materials that cover key yoga-related vocabulary in sign language to aid effective communication during sessions.Interpreter Coordination: Assistance in organizing scheduled sign language interpreters for classes, if needed, to ensure full accessibility for all participants.Yoga Props and Equipment: Availability of mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, and other yoga props that can be borrowed for classes to accommodate participants at various skill levels.
The workshop fosters a sense of community among deaf mothers, encouraging social interaction and connection. By bringing together individuals with shared experiences, CODA Hong Kong strengthens the social fabric of the deaf community, promoting solidarity and mutual support.By focusing on mothers, the workshop helps strengthen family bonds and improve family dynamics, as well-rounded mothers are better equipped to support their children. This holistic approach aligns with CODA Hong Kong’s vision of nurturing healthy family units within the deaf community.

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
