English voice-over for a sign language video of a children's storybook about a deaf family
CODA Hong Kong is developing a series of children's storybooks about the experiences of deaf families, presented in International Sign videos with English subtitles. These resources aim to promote understanding and empathy towards deaf individuals and their families among children globally. To further enhance the accessibility and engagement of these videos for English-speaking children who may not understand International Sign, we are seeking English voice-over volunteers. By adding an English narration, we can make the stories more accessible to a wider international audience of young learners. This initiative will help us to promote inclusivity and raise awareness about deaf culture and family life on a global scale in an engaging and age-appropriate manner.
We will provide the volunteer with the International Sign video of the children's storybook, which includes English subtitles for reference. We will also offer guidance on the desired tone and pace for the voice-over, tailored for a young audience. If a recording session at a designated location is required, we will provide the necessary recording equipment and a suitable environment. If the volunteer is recording remotely, we can offer advice on achieving good audio quality. Our team will be available to answer any questions and provide feedback throughout the recording process. We appreciate the volunteer's contribution to making our educational resources accessible to a global audience.
Providing English voice-overs for our children's International Sign storybook videos will directly contribute to CODA Hong Kong's goals by: Enhancing Global Accessibility: Making our educational resources accessible to English-speaking children worldwide who may not understand International Sign. Promoting International Understanding: Fostering understanding and empathy towards the deaf community and their families on a global scale. Expanding Our Global Reach: Connecting with international audiences and organizations interested in deaf culture and inclusion. Strengthening Our Educational Impact: Providing engaging and accessible learning materials that promote inclusivity and awareness globally. By making these stories more accessible through English narration, we can effectively reach a broader international audience and promote a more inclusive and understanding global society.

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
