Conduct 6 sand art experience classes for deaf students and their caregivers
CODA Hong Kong is dedicated to providing diverse support services for the deaf and their families, promoting their social inclusion. To enrich the lives of the deaf and their caregivers and provide a platform for shared learning and interaction, our association plans to organize a series of sand art experience classes in May and June. Sand art not only cultivates participants' artistic sense and creativity but also fosters interaction and emotional exchange in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We hope to recruit sand art volunteer instructors to provide professional guidance to different age groups of the deaf, deaf parents, and hearing caregivers, allowing them to experience the joy of sand art and gain inspiration and growth. This course will cover multiple groups, including deaf elderly, deaf parents, hearing adult/youth/child caregivers, aiming to build a closer inclusive community for both the deaf and hearing.
Course objectives and background information of the students to help instructors understand the learning needs of different groups; basic teaching outlines and suggestions for the sand art experience classes; sand art materials and tools (such as sand, drawing boards, projection equipment, etc., specific details can be further discussed); our staff will provide administrative and communication support during the classes; a certificate of volunteer service hours to thank volunteers for their dedication.
Promote Deaf-Hearing Inclusion: By allowing the deaf and their hearing caregivers to participate in art activities together, it creates opportunities for interaction and exchange, breaking down barriers and building closer community ties. Enrich the Lives of Service Users: It provides new artistic experiences for the deaf, deaf parents, and hearing caregivers, cultivating their interests and hobbies and improving their quality of life. Support Deaf Caregivers: By providing a relaxed and learning environment, it reduces the stress of caregivers and enhances their interaction with deaf family members. Overall, this project not only brings artistic pleasure to participants but also promotes deaf-hearing inclusion on an emotional and social level.

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
