Teaching a group of 8-12 year old kids of deaf adults to play chess
We are having a short summer activities to enable KODAs (Kids of Deaf Adults) to expose to playing Chess, and basically learning new things that could enhance their problem solving skills, resilience and strategic thinking.
We ease the communication barriers between Deaf Parents and the volunteers by offering Sign Language Interpreter when needed. We hence would handle expectation management.
We care for the growth of KODAs, and enable them with the access to expose themselves to different kind of learning experience would be essential to help them get used to the socialization of the Hearing World.

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
