Background

The project aims to support and enhance the well-being of deaf mothers through accessible exercise opportunity. This project arose from the recognition of the unique challenges faced by mothers in the deaf community, who often experience isolation and may lack access to wellness resources that are inclusive and tailored to their needs.

What we have

Interpreter Coordination: Assistance in scheduling sign language interpreters for classes, if needed, to ensure full accessibility for all participants. Sign Language interpreter as well help in consultation of the instructor on how to conduct classes without any verbal and hearing aids and help instructor understand the unique needs of Deaf People.

Why this is important

The workshop fosters a sense of community among deaf mothers, encouraging social interaction and connection. By bringing together individuals with shared experiences, CODA Hong Kong strengthens the social fabric of the deaf community, promoting solidarity and mutual support. We concern about the physical and mental well-being of Deaf Mothers as care-taker. Through this program, not only the health of them could be enhanced and maintained, it is an eye-opening experience for them to access to Deaf-frieindly learning opportunities.

What we do

CODA Hong Kong (Children of Deaf Adults) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously.
