Meet Kelvin - Professional Making a Difference
With a law degree from CityU HK and an accounting background from the University of Aberdeen, Kelvin currently works as a Paralegal in the in-house legal department at Ernst & Young. Beyond his professional life, he is an avid runner who has participated in major events like the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon and HZMB Half-Marathon, including charity runs supporting children and the deaf community.
About CODA
CODA Hong Kong serves as a vital organization in the community, dedicated to supporting children of deaf adults and creating inclusive spaces where they can thrive alongside their peers without limitations.
Professional Skills in Action
What began as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic transformed into a meaningful role at CODA Hong Kong. Kelvin stepped forward to contribute his accounting expertise, becoming an integral part of the organization's financial management. His work ensures that the organization can operate efficiently and effectively, ultimately benefiting the deaf parents and their children they serve.
Making an Impact Through Numbers
As an accounting administrator, Kelvin has dedicated an impressive 471 hours of service from June 2021 to November 2024, including 132 hours in 2024 alone. His careful management of subvention funding from major donors ensures resources are meaningfully allocated to support deaf parents and their children.
Creating Meaningful Connections
One of the most rewarding aspects of Kelvin's volunteer work has been witnessing the joy and laughter of children with deaf parents as they socialize freely with their peers. During his volunteer work, he could hear the cheerful voices and laughter from these children as they lived and played like any other kids would. CODA Hong Kong provides a welcoming shelter where children of deaf parents can socialize with their peers without limitations and barriers.
Lessons in Giving Back
Through his volunteer experience, Kelvin gained deeper insights into how charity organizations function, particularly in managing subvention funding from major donors. As an administrator of donation funds, he learned the importance of using resources wisely to benefit deaf parents and their children. His biggest takeaway was understanding how organizations can manage funding effectively to create meaningful impact for their beneficiaries.
Message on a Billboard
When asked what message he would put on a billboard in Hong Kong's busiest street, Kelvin shared: "Don't waste your knowledge & skill that you learned in your life, just contribute without any hesitation!" This powerful message encourages professionals to look beyond monetary gains and consider how their expertise can benefit society.
A Lasting Contribution
The NGO's testimonial highlights Kelvin's dedication: "Kelvin has been an invaluable asset to CODA Hong Kong, consistently demonstrating responsibility and precision in managing our accounting needs." His contributions have ensured the organization's financial stability and smooth operation, embodying the spirit of kindness and collaboration.
Beyond numbers, Kelvin has built strong bonds with the CODA Hong Kong team, inspiring those around him through his commitment and positive attitude.
