Jim Rowan has been Dyson’s CEO since 2017 and a board member since 2012. During his tenure he has delivered record results for Dyson, while rapidly expanding the company’s technical and commercial capabilities. In 2018 he oversaw the launch of an unparalleled suite of Dyson machines across the globe, including in our new markets India, Turkey, Korea and Mexico. He also managed the opening of our second UK campus in Hullavington, the home of Dyson’s automotive ambitions. Jim joined Dyson as Chief Operating Officer in 2012. As COO, Jim led all aspects of the core Research, Design and Development activities as well as the operational functions, from supply chain and logistics to planning and manufacturing. In this time, Jim used his 20 years of experience from managing global operations in Research In Motion (BlackBerry) and Flextronics to lay the foundation for Dyson’s future. Jim built his career from the shop-floor, serving as an engineering apprentice while also attending college and university. He has been the founder of two company start-ups which were grown, prepared for acquisition and sold for a premium. Jim studied Mechanical & Production Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University and Glasgow School of Technology, and holds an MSc in Business with Supply Chain Management and Logistics from Northumbria University. Jim is also a member of the Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. In his free time, Jim enjoys playing soccer and tennis and is a keen skier and hiker.
